2008 Hannspree World SuperBike Championship Round 4, Assen, Holland, April 27th Race Report

  BAYLISS TAKES THE DOUBLE IN HOLLAND

In an amazing display of racing Xerox Ducati's Troy Bayliss powered his way to take both the races wins at Assen in Holland in front of 75,000 spectators and now leads the World SuperBike Championship by a massive seventy points from Hannspree Ten Kate Honda's Carlos on 108 points and Yamaha Motor Italia's Troy Corser on 89 points.

Race 1. Xerox Ducati's powered from pole position to take the lead in race one, but only after a few laps he was overtaken by Alstare Suzuki's Yukio Kagayama where Bayliss sat until lap tweleve when Kagayama made a mistake and Bayliss saw his chance to take the lead and eventually opened up a gap of 2.2 seconds from Hannspree Ten Kate Honda's Carlos Checa and Alstare Suzuki's Max Neukirchner. Kagayama eventually finished fourth ahead of Yamaha Motor Italia's Troy Corser and and Guandalini Racing's Jakub Smrz. Seventh and eighth went to Hanspree Ten Kate Honda's Ryuichi Kiyonari and PSG-1 Kawasaki's Makoto Tamada, ninth was Paul Bird Motorsports Gregorio Lavilla with Sterilgarda Go-Elevens Max Biaggi rounding out the top ten.

Race 2. After taking the race win in the opening race Xerox Ducati's Troy Bayliss led from the green light to the chequred flag with Yamaha Motor Italia's Nori Haga taking second and he crashed out of race one. Haga was able to push Bayliss at times but was never able to pass and settle for the twenty points. Third place saw Hannspree Ten Kate Honda's Carlos Checa recover from a bad start to take the final step on the podium ahead of Sterilgarda Go-Eleven's Ruben Xaus and the two Alstare Suzuki's of Max Neukirchner and Yukio Kagayama. Another consistant ride for Paul Bird Motorsports rider Gregorio Lavilla in eighth , ninth PSG-1's Makoto Tamada and tenth was Yamaha Motor Italia's Troy Corser.

WORLD SUPERSPORT CHAMPIONSHIP. The World Supersport race was said to be the best racing of the year as the top thirteen riders were only three seconds a drift from eventual race winner Hannspree Ten Kate Honda's Andrew Pitt who tussled for the lead with team-mate Johnny Rea and Glaner Motocard.com rider Joan Lascorz, but after a fought race Andrew Pitt managed to keep Johnny Rea at bay with Spain's Joan Lascorz in third. Fourth and fifth was Yamaha World Supersport's duo of Fabien Foret and pole sitter Broc Parkes with Stiggy MotorSports Josh Brookes in sixth ahead of Britain's Craig Jones on the Parkalgar Honda Racing Machine. After four rounds of the World Supersport Championship Joan Lascorz leadswith 70 points from Andrew on 50 points and Broc Parkes on 49 points.
