2008 Hannspree World SuperBike Championship Round 13, Magny-Cours, France, October 5th Race Report

  BAYLISS TAKES HIS THIRD WORLD TITLE AT MAGNYCOURS IN FRANCE 


Xerox Ducati's Troy Bayliss wrapped up his third World Superbike Championship at Magny-Cours in France in front of 78,000 spectators by taking third in race one behind Alstare Suzuki's Fonsi Nieto and race winner Yamaha Motor Italia's Nori Haga. In race two Troy celebrated in the best possible way by taking victory over the Yamaha Motor Italia riders of Nori Haga and Troy Corser. With his results Troy Bayliss gave Ducati there fifteenth manufacturer's title with the final round remaining at Portimao in Portugal on November 2nd.

Race One. Yamaha Motor Italia's Nori Haga dominated race one to take his third win in a row ahead of Alstare Suzuki's Fonsi Nieto and Xerox Ducati's Troy Bayliss who stayed out of trouble to take third and wrap up the 2008 championship. Sterilgarda-Go Eleven rider Max Biaggi came on strong in the end to take fourth ahead of Alstare Suzuki's Max Neukirchner with Yamaha Motor Italia's Troy Corser in sixth. Hannspree Ten Kate Honda's Carlos Checa who had a strong start faded towrds the end of the race due to a tyre problem finished seventh ahead of Alstare Suzuki's Yukio Kagayama and Hannspree Ten Kate Honda's Kenan Sofuoglu with Vent-Axia VK Honda's Gregorio Lavilla in tenth.

Race Two. Newly crowned world champion Xerox Ducati's Troy Bayliss and Yamaha Motor Italia's Nori Haga thrashed it out in race two, but with two laps remaining Troy Bayliss made his move to take his 50th win of his career. Third place went to Yamaha Motor Italia's Troy Corser who at one point looked like he was going to challenge for the lead eventually got dropped off by Bayliss and Haga had to keep Hannspree Ten Kate Honda's Carlos Checa from taking the final place on the podium. Fifth and sixth saw the battle of the Sterilgarda Go-Eleven Ducati rider where Ruben Xaus got the better of Max Biaggi. Alstare Suzuki's Yukio Kagayama brought it home in seventh ahead of his team-Mates Fonsi Nieto with Max Neukirchner in ninth and Hannspree Althea Honda's Roberto Rolfofo in tenth.

WORLD SUPERSPORTS CHAMPIONSHIP.

Hannspree Ten Kate Honda's Andrew Pitt wrapped up the World Supersport tiltle which he last won seven years ago for Kawasaki. The Australian who won the race benefitted from a crash between his team-mate Johnny Rea and Stiggy Motorsports Robbin Harms, even though Johnny Rea was able to remount and finish the race in tenth the title was already wrapped up. RES Software Suzuki's Barry Veneman took second with Hannspree Stiggy Motorsports Josh Brookes in third.
