SBK CORONA EXTRA WORLD SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP Round 4 Monza, Italy, 7th May Race Report
XEROX DUCATI STAR TROY BAYLISS DOES THE DOUBLE AT MONZA
Troy Bayliss rewarded the Xerox Ducati team by winning both races at the super fast Monza circuit in Italy in front of 100,000 italian fans in hot sunny conditions.Bayliss held off challenges from both Troy Corser, Alex Barros and Nori Haga in both races.
RACE ONE, 18 lap at Monza was won by Xerox Ducati's Troy Bayliss who finished over 3 seconds ahead of former Moto-Gp legend Alex Barros ( Klaffi Honda ) who fought his way through the pack to claim second place on the podium. Alstare Suzuki's Troy Corser had to fight off Yamaha's Nori Haga to claim third. Britain's James Toseland crashed out of fourth place postion on lap 17 at the parabolica at over 100 mph due to a default on his front brake but was able to walk away unhurt from the crash. The race was not without drama as a multiple pile up at the first turn on lap one involving several riders allowed the top riders to break away from the rest of the field, luckliy no one was hurt and all riders walked away from the crash.
RACE TWO. Troy Bayliss had to battle with Troy Corser and Nori Haga in race two to secure his second win of the day, and this now is his fifth straight SBK race in a row. Klaffi Honda's Alex Barros made a poor start in race two and found himself way down in the pack, but the hard charging Brazilian fought his way up to fifth to battle it out with Britains James Toseland only to take him on the last corner as toseland's Winston Ten Kate Honda was running out of fuel, but still managed to cross the line in fifth place.So the final placings in race two where Troy Bayliss, Troy Corser, Nori Haga, Alex Barros, James Toseland, Andrew Pitt, Karl Muggeridge. Troy Bayliss now leads the championship by 175 points from Troy Corser 139 points. A close battle for third with James Toseland 97 points and Alex Barros 95 points and Nori Haga on 93 points.
WORLD SUPERSPORT CHAMPIONSHIP, was won by 19 year old Yoann Tiberio (Megabike Honda) who produced an amazing battle filled victory of current world champion Sebastien Charpentier (Winston Ten Kate Honda) who made his usual fast starts but was penalised with a stop and go penalty for a jump start. Second place Robbin Harms (Stiggy Motorsports Honda) and third place was decided when Massimo Roccoli (Yamaha Motor Italia) and Kenan Sofuoglu (Winston Ten Kate Honda) clashed fairings on the final corner with Roccoli coming off worse and had to settle for fourth place behind Sofuogla who took the fianl place on the podium. Wildcard rider Stuart Easton scored a magnificent seventh place finish on the SC Carrachi Ducati on his first visit to Monza.
