Round eight of the Corona Extra World SuperBike Championship came to Misano in San Marino this weekend to see the top riders of Troy Bayliss, James Toseland, Nori Haga, Troy Corser and Max Biaggi battle it out on the all new reversed curcuit at this amazing venue on the adriatic coast and With a crowd attendance of over 80,000 and glourious hot sunny conditions forecast for the weekend.
Throughout the weekends qualifying Xerox Ducati's was the rider who was on form and got to grips with the revamped circuit early on and would be the man to beat in superpole, but it was his fellow Australian Troy Corser would would set the fastest time in superpole onboard the Yamaha Italia machine that would claim the front spot on the grid for sundays races.
Troy Bayliss cut Hannspree Ten Kate Honda's James Toseland championship lead down to just twenty one points after securing the double win at Misano, James Toseland finished fourth in race one and sixth in race two as James struggled to come to terms with the pace of the front runners in both races. Race one saw Alstare Suzuki rider Max Biaggi collide with Yamaha Motor Italia rider Nori Haga which resulted in both riders crashing out of race one, as Bayliss went on to take the chequred flah ahead of Yamaha Motor Italia rider Troy Corser and Alstare Suzuki's Yukio Kagayama.
For Race two The Ducati ace of Troy Bayliss led from the start and the only threat came from Yamaha Motor Italia's Nori Haga who took the lead briefly, but was soon passed by Bayliss who went on to take his second win of the day with Nori Haga second and Alstare Suzuki's Max Biaggi in third. Coming into this round Troy Bayliss was fourth in the overall championship standings and with his two amazing race wins at Misano has pushed him into second place in the championship with Toseland on 260, Bayliss 239 points, Haga 234 points, Biaggi 217 points and Troy Corser on 182 points.
WORLD SUPERSPORT CHAMPIONSHIP
Yamaha World SSP Racing rider Anthony West won the two part race at Misano by beating championship leader Kenan Sofuoglu by over four seconds, West's team mate Brock Parkes claimed the final place on the podium with Meassimo Roccoli in fourth on the Yamaha Lorenzini by Leoni machine. The championship standings after eight rounds stand as Kenan Sofuoglu 171 points, Fabien Foret 100 points, Katsuki Fujiwara 77 points, Robbin Harms 70 points, Anthony West 66 points.
