2010 Hannspree World SuperBike Championship Round 2, Portimao, Portugal, 28th March Race Report
MAX BIAGGI DOES THE THE DOUBLE
Infront of 77,000 fans, Max Biaggi won each 22-lap at the Portimao circuit in Portugal. The Aprilia Alitalia rider now goes second in the championship rankings, behind Alstare Suzuki's Leon Haslam who took two second places. Biagg was pushed all the way by Haslam and won both races by just 0.191seconds taking his total superbike career wins to six. Hannspree Ten Kate Honda's Johnny Rea took the final spot in race one with Sterilgarda Yamaha's Cal Crutchlow third in race two.
Race One. Aprilia Alitalia rider Max Biaggi held off Alstare Suzuki's Leon Haslam for the win in race one but only after a strong fight throughout the 22-lap race where Biaggi crossed the finish line only 0.200seconds ahead of the Suzuki rider. Hannspree Ten Kate Honda's Johnny Rea took third after Sterilgarda Yamaha poleman Cal Crutchlow crashed, only to remount to finish in fourteenth. Althea Ducati's Carlos Checa fought hard to take fourth ahead of Aprilia Alitalia Leon Camier and fellow Althea Ducati team-mate Shane Byrne who rode through the pain barrier after a big crash on Saturday took sixth. Former double world champion Sterilgarda Yamaha's James Toseland took seventh after coming from fifteenth on the grid while Ducati Xerox Nori Haga struggled with grip finished eighth with the two BMW Motorrad riders of Troy Corser and Ruben Xaus in ninth and tenth.
Race Two. A close four-rider fight for the win went to Biaggi again, from Leon Haslam, who could not match the speed of the Aprilia down the Portimao long straight had to settle for second again with Sterilgarda Yamaha's Cal Crutchlow in taking a well deserved third after crashing in race one only to remount and finish fourteenth. Althea Ducati's Carlos Checa took his second fourth place of the day and yet another battle with Biaggi's team-mate Leon Camier.Crutchlow's team-mate James Toseland had a better run this time out took sixth ahead of Althea Ducati's Shane Byrne and Nori Haga. Haslam's team-mate Sylvain Quintoli was ninth with BMW Motorrad's Troy Corser in tenth.
SUPERSPORT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP.
2007 World Supersport Champion Kenan Sofuoglu won a thrilling race by 0.031seconds over Motocard.com Kawasaki's Joan Lascorz with Sofuoglu's team-mate Michele Pirro in third. Long time race leader Parkalgar Honda's Eugene Laverty was caught and passed by Sofuoglu and Lascorz with a few laps to go, only to lose the front end and crash only to remount and finish in eleventh. After the second round, Sofuoglu leads the championship, 41 points, Lascorz 40 points with Laverty in third on 30 points.
