2009 Hannspree World SuperBike Championship Round 11, Nurburgring, Germany, Sept 6th Race Report
SPIES AND REA TAKE A WIN APIECE WHILE HAGA CRASHES OUT
Round eleven of the Hannspree World Superbike Championship attracted a large crowd of over 42,000 spectors at the Nurburgring in Germany. Sterilgarda Yamaha World Superbike rider Ben Spies took the win from Ducati Xerox's Nori Haga in race one with a strong finish from Hannspree Ten Kate Honda rider Carlos Checa in third. In race two Haga would crash out leaving Hannspree Ten Kate Honda's Johnny Rea to take the win ahead of Spies and Checa, making the American Spies now eighteen points clear over Haga for the first time this year.
Race One. Ducati Xerox rider Nori Haga powered away from the rest of the chasing group, but a mid-point race distance he was overtaken by Sterilgarda Yamaha World Superbike's Ben Spies who controlled the race to perfection and with two laps to go the Texan upped his pace to take victory ahead of the Ducati rider with Hannspree Ten Kate Honda's Carlos Checa managing to hold of his team mate Johnny Rea to take a well deserved third. The battle for fifth would go to Aprilia's Max Biaggi who managed to hold off Stiggy Racing Honda's Leon Haslam and Haga's team mate Michel Fabrizio with BMW rider Troy Corser who spent the early part of the race would go onto finish in eighth ahead of the two British riders Sterilgarda Yamaha World Superbike's Tom Sykes and Sterilgarda Ducati's Shane Byrne.
Race Two. The Hannspree Ten Kate Honda team celebrated as Johnny Rea took his second win of the year after a coming together with Ducati Xerox's Nori Haga who came the worse off as the Japanese rider crashed out and go onto lose his lead at the top of the championship as his closest rival Ben Spies went onto to take second with Rea's team mate Carlos Checa making a second visit to the podium that day. Aprilia's Max Biaggi continued his battle with Stiggy Racing Honda rider Leon Haslam to take fourth with BMW rider Troy Corser in a strong sixth ahead of third Hannspree Ten Kate Honda of Ryuichi Kiyonari and Britain's Tom Sykes. Ducati Xerox's Michel Fabrizio would go onto take ninth with the Brux Alstare Suzuki of Yukio Kagayama in tenth.
WORLD SUPERSPORTS CHAMPIONSHIP.
Britain's Yamaha World Supersport rider Cal Crutchlow took another win by crossing the line some ten seconds clear of Ireland's Parkalgar Honda's Eugene Laverty and Kawasaki Provac Motocard.com's Joan Lascorz embroiled in a terrific scrap for the runner-up spot with the Irishman eventually getting the better of Lascorz on the line. After eleven of fourteen rounds championship Cal Crutchlow now sits on 210 points with Eugene Laverty second on 188 points with Joan Lascorz in third on 138 points.
