Infront of a 65,000 British crowd Sterilgarda Yamaha rider Cal Crutchlow was the star of the weekend after taking his first ever double victorty from pole position on home soil at the tenth round of the Hannspree World Superbike Championship at Silverstone. In race one the Sterilgarda Yamaha rider fought a fierce battle with Hannspree Ten Kate Honda's Johnny Rea with Alstare Suzuki's Leon Haslam taking third, making it an all British podium. In the second race Crutchlow broke away from Rea at the mid-way point to cross the finish line four seconds ahead of Rea with Aprilia Alitalia's Leon Camier in third to make it yet again a British 1-2-3. Current Championship points leader Max Biaggi failed to make the podium for the first time this year as the Aprilia Alitalia rider took sixth in both races, despite by being beaten by Leon Haslam Biaggi still has a healthy 60 points over Haslam with three rounds remaining.
Race One. Sterilgarda Yamaha rider Cal Crutchlow took his first ever win in WSB by beating Hannspree Ten Kate Honda's Johhny Rea in a thrilling 18-lap race with Alstare Suzuki's Leon Haslam making it an all British podium in third. Ducati Xerox rider Michel Fabrizio took fourth after starting from the front row ahead of the two Aprilia Alitalia's of Max Biaggi and Leon Camier. Althea Ducati's Carlos Checa got the better of Crutchlow's team-mate James Toseland for seventh with Althea Ducati's Shane Byrne and BMW Motorrad Troy Corser ninth and tenth.
Race Two. Cal Crutchlow completed a perfect ending in the second race of the day by taking victory yet again for the Sterilgarda Yamaha Team. Unlike race one Crutchlow broke away from rea to eventually open up a lead of four seconds which he held on to take the chequred flag with Aprilia Alitalia's Leon Camier in third. Alstare Suzuki's Leon Haslam held off a late challenge by Crutchlow's team-mate James Toseland for fourth with Aprilia's Max Biaggi sixth. Alstare Suzuki's Sylvain Quintoli took seventh, eighth Althea Ducati's Shane Byrne with PATA B&G Racing Aprilia's Jakub Smrz and Althea Ducati's Carlos Checa ninth and tenth.
SUPERSPORT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP.
Parkalgar Honda rider Eugene Laverty was the long time leader throughout the Supersport race but a late charge from Hannspree Ten Kate Honda's Kenan Sofuoglu on the last lap saw the former world champion snatch the lead from Laverty where the Irishman responded on the final corner to re-pass Sofuoglu to take the win by the narrowist of margins. Britain's Intermoto Czech Honda rider Gino Rea took his podium finish of his WSS career in third with Triumph BE1 Racing's Chas Davies fourth.
