Shakey shakes things up on opening day at Brands finale
Shane 'Shakey' Byrne has ended the opening day of free practice at Brands Hatch fastest as the Be Wiser Ducati rider set the pace ahead of tomorrow’s first of three races at the Kent circuit this weekend to decide the title.
The pace intensified in the afternoon session and despite the cool conditions the times continued to tumble and the top 15 riders were covered by just 0.8s, but Byrne continued to hold the advantage despite the attack from Peter Hickman in the closing stages.
Dan Linfoot fired the Honda Racing Fireblade into the top three, pushing John Hopkins back into fourth place in the final moments of the session. Leon Haslam kicked off the Showdown decider by ending the day fifth fastest, pushing his team-mate James Ellison into sixth place.
Christian Iddon was the fastest of the Tyco BMWs in seventh place ahead of Broc Parkes and team-mate Michael Laverty. Richard Cooper completed the top ten for Buildbase BMW.
