Shakey onfire at Brands Hatch
Shane Byrne has stamped his authority over the chasing pack in FP2 at Brands Hatch with lap record pace to pull out half a second on Jason O'Halloran.
The Be Wiser Ducati rider picked up from topping the opening free practice with consistently fast laps on longer stints before cranking up the pace in the final ten minutes. On his final flyer the four-time BSB champion produced a 1m 25.117s which narrowly missed out on the outright best ever lap around the Brands Hatch GP circuit.
Honda's O'Halloran acted as Byrne's nearest challenger at the end of the session by jumping to second late on with a 1m 25.675s to take just under two-tenths from Glenn Irwin who claimed third for the second consecutive session. Dan Linfoot ensured Honda maintained its momentum by taking fourth narrowly ahead of Buildbase BMW's Richard Cooper and Bennetts Suzuki's Tommy Bridewell.
Tyco BMW's Christian Iddon provided somewhat of a resurgence in seventh ahead of ePayMe Yamaha's new rider Broc Parkes as James Ellison and Luke Mossey, who crashed in the closing stages, completing the top ten contenders – showing the new ZX-10R is still slightly off the pace with Ellison a second behind leader Byrne. Further back BSB Showdown contenders Leon Haslam claimed 15th overall with Michael Laverty 18th while the returning John Hopkins producing a solid showing in 17th after his spell out injured.
